Publishing and Citing Digital Research: A Survey by the CiVers Project for NFDI4Objects

This survey is conducted by the CiVers (Citation of Versioned Web Pages by PID) project at the German Archaeological Institute (DAI), within the NFDI4Objects community. The CiVers project investigates how digital research resources, including versioned web pages and research data, can be reliably cited and referenced using persistent identifiers (PIDs).

The survey aims to better understand researchers' current practices, experiences, and expectations regarding the publication, sharing, and citation of digital research data and online research resources. We are particularly interested in how researchers publish and reference research data, use persistent identifiers (PIDs), such as DOIs, and perceive the role of the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), digital infrastructures, and web resources in scholarly communication.

Some questions ask about your current research practices, while others explore your opinions and expectations regarding future developments in research data publication, citation, interoperability, and citation tracking. Rather than assessing your knowledge of these concepts, the survey focuses on how they relate to your research practices and your expectations for future scholarly communication.

Your responses will help us identify researchers' needs and priorities for improving research data infrastructures and services. They will contribute to developing solutions that support the publication, citation, discoverability, and long-term reuse of digital research resources in line with FAIR principles.

The survey should take approximately 5–10 minutes to complete. All responses will be treated confidentially and analyzed only in aggregated form.
